Lake County Young Republicans Sponsor Impeachment Forum to Packed House in Libertyville

As we’ve been plugging for a few days now, the newly-rejuvenated Lake County Young Republicans sponsored a forum on the impeachment and trial proceedings against Governor Rod Blagojevich at Austin’s in Libertyville. The event was well attended by many Lake County Republicans, young and old, moderates and conservatives. All were united, however, in their desire to get the inside scoop on the deliberations and procedures used by the House in their review of the evidence and vote to impeach the Governor.

YR President Collin Corbett emceed the program, which first featured State Reps. Ed Sullivan, Jr., Sandy Cole and Suzanne Bassi, who discussed the impeachment proceedings in the House. Next, State Senators Dan Duffy and Matt Murphy addressed the crowd, although they were not able to talk about the trial in the Senate, since they are essentially the jurors in the trial. Q&A followed.

All in all, a fantastic and well-attended first effort by the YRs. We look forward to much more from this new generation of Lake County Republicans in the weeks and months ahead.

Lake County Sherriff Mark Curran’s fundraiser raised thousands of dollars for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
On Friday June 5th Sheriff Mark Curran hosted his first Golf Outing as a Republican. The event played at Antioch Golf Course and was sold out with over 40 foursomes and a successful dinner auction that followed. The day was blessed with great weather and many generous supporters.
In addition to bringing in money for Sheriff Curran’s campaign coffers, the crowd also raised over two thousand dollars for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation is a nonprofit organization that seeks to find the cause of and cure for childhood brain tumors by supporting medical research and provides educational and emotional support for children and families affected by this life-threatening disease.

State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias is holding a press conference at Granite Innovation today for his Senate campaign. While the stated purpose of the event is to promote Giannoulias’ “new agenda to help Illinois families balance increased challenges between working to make ends meet and raising children,” perhaps the State Treasurer could ask his hosts to pay the $26,446 they owe the State of Illinois in back taxes.

“Treasurer Giannoulias should know better,” said Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady. “Illinois is in the midst of an unprecedented budget crisis – a crisis Alexi Giannoulias says we need a tax hike to solve. But while Alexi is asking struggling Illinois families to pay even more, he’s holding campaign events with people who haven’t paid what they already owe.”

According to public filings, the State of Illinois has filed $36,869 in tax liens against Granite Innovation and M R D Associates from 1998 to 2007. Releases have been filed for $10,420-worth of the liens, while $26,449 appear to still be outstanding.
